Preceptorship Program Requirements – Chiropractic

General Requirements:

  • The extern student must be introduced through a written official request, by the attending college or university, which must be accredited, and recognized in good standing with the Iranian Ministry of Health & Medical Education.
  • The extern student must have successfully entered the clinical training of the curriculum (have successfully completed parts I, II of the US National Boards or its equivalent in Canada, Interns of University of Zurich – Switzerland require passing internship examination score), and have qualifies as a Clinical Intern in good standing.
  • The official written request must be received no later than 4 weeks prior to the intended date of attendance.
  • The exact purpose of the preceptor-ship program including, proposed curriculum, approximate duration, and any limitations including physical handicaps must be fully stated.
  • The written official request must be directed to the Academic Assessment & Accreditation Commission – Chiropractic Licensing Board (AAAC-CLB), and it must be approved by the IRCA Committee on Continued Education and the IRCA Scientific Director duly recognized by the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education.
  • Only designated doctors who have been approved by the Academic Assessment & Accreditation Commission – Chiropractic Licensing Board (AAAC-CLB) are qualifies to accept extern students for the purpose of preceptor-ship program (Qualification requirements can be found under AAAC-CLB, Designated Doctor Requirements section).

Private Clinic Requirements:

  • The preceptor-ship program must be conducted under direct supervision of an approved Designated Doctor, in good standing with the Academic Assessment & Accreditation Commission – Chiropractic Licensing Board (AAAC-CLB), of the Iranian Ministry of Health – Deputy Ministry of Education.
  •  The extern student must carry a full nametag, proper clinical attire, and he / she must be fully introduced (in Persian language) to every single attending patient.

 The extern student may participate in:

  • Patient history taking (under Direct supervision of the Designated Doctor).
  • Perform physical examination procedures including, Internal Medicine, Cardiopulmonary, ENT, Ophthalmic, Orthopedic and Neurological assessment (under direct supervision of the Designated Doctor) (OBGYN Examinations are excluded).
  •  Review patients medical files including: Imaging, Stress Studies, Advanced Imaging (MR, CT, BMD, Bone Sans with & without contrast) Laboratory Studies, Electro-diagnostic and related studies (under direct supervision of the Designated Doctors).

The extern student is prohibited from:

  • Discussing any information regarding the patient with any third party regardless of their relationship with the intended patient, except the Designated Doctor.
  • Making private notes, copying, obtaining photos, or transmitting patient information in any form, electronic or otherwise, without prior written permission of the patient and the Designated Doctor.
  • Communicating clinical or diagnostic information either available or prescribed to the patient without the approval and supervision of the Designated Doctor.
  • Communicating information regarding intended treatment protocol and or related issues to the intended patient without the approval and direct supervision of the Designated Doctor.
  • Prescribe and / or suggest any diagnostic procedures including imaging, advanced imaging, or laboratory studies of any kind to the intended patient without the approval and direct supervision of the Designated Doctor.
  • Prescribe or recommend the use of any medication, including those within the Chiropractic scope of practice in IRAN, without the approval and direct supervision of the Designated Doctor.
  • Prescribe and / or recommend nutritional supplement without the approval and direct supervision of the Designated Doctor.
  • Prescribe and /or recommend Physiotherapy to the intended patient, without the approval and direct supervision of the Designated Doctor.
  • Performing / applying modalities without the direct supervision and physical presence of the Designated Doctor.
  • Physical presence within the clinic premises during physical absence of the Designated Doctor.
